The BRu is oriented to multidisciplinary research among the 8 focused Research Groups the unit houses: accounting (8,46% (11 researchers)), applied statistics (20,77% (27)), econometrics and econophysics (10,77% (14)), economics (12,31% (16)), finance (10,77% (14)), general management (13,8% (17)), organizational behaviour and human resources (13,85% (18)), marketing (10% (13)).

BRU-IUL is currently managing several projects funded by the 7th Framework Program (European Commission), the FCT and other public institutions.

40,91% of our eligible researchers concluded their Doctoral and Post-Doctoral studies abroad: US (ex. Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Harvard Univ.), UK (ex. Warwick Uni.), Netherlands (ex. Tillburg Univ.), Spain (Univ. de Barcelona), France (ex. Hautes Études Commerciales), Germany (ex. Bergishen Univ.), Ireland (Univ. College Dublin), Italy (European Univ. Institute) and Switzerland (ex. Univ. de Lausanne).

The almost 16% (w/ the recently hired post-docs.) of BRU's researchers with foreign nationality come from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Iran, Mozambique, Romania, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom and US.

99% of our articles are published in international peer reviewed journals. In the last four years, almost 300 articles made appearance in journals such as the European Accounting Review, European Management Journal, Management International Review, International Business Review, Ecological Economics, Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, British Journal of Health Psychology, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, etc.

BRU has recently welcomed 8 foreign post-doc. researchers to conduct investigation within our unit and to lecture the Ph.D. Program. These are: Szabolcs Sebestyén (Hungary), Jose M. Leon-Pérez (Spain), Silvia Dello-Russo (Italy), Emanuel Gasteiger (Germany), Ehsan Khansalar (Iran), Padma Panchapakesan (India), Nebojsa Davcik (Serbia) and Mohamed Mostafa (USA).

Fully international and independent Scientific Advisory Board: Alnoor Bhimani (LSE), Colin Cameron (Univ. of California), Eleanor Westney (York Univ.), Jay Dahya (City Univ. of New York), and Jean-François Hennart (Tilburg Univ.). This Board is convened by the Director.

23% of our Ph.D. students in the academic year 2011-12 come from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, China, Greece, India, Mozambique and Turkey.
